HAWAII - Day 4
One thing Maui is famous for is the drive to Hana. It is an all day trip with lots of gorgeous views along the way as well as beaches and waterfalls to enjoy. We heard mix reviews of people liking/disliking the drive, but we LOVED it! Next time we definitely want to spend more time at Black Rock Beach. This post will have a TON of pictures, and lot of them will just be the beautiful scenery so enjoy. :)

There was such a range of beach and tropical forest that it was all so beautiful! This is basically our first stop at the ocean, and it was spectacular! The colors, water, and waves were just breathtaking.
Though the ocean was beautiful, the main reason we stopped here was to enjoy a loaf of banana bread for lunch. Kelly & James found this place before and they seriously have the BEST banana bread we've ever tasted or smelled. :)
While we were enjoying our lunch a beautiful red bird made friends with Mike since he loved the banana bread too. The bird didn't seem afraid at all, and it was so cool to have it close.
Just down the road from the banana bread shack there were these lava rocks and the waves were just crashing into them non stop. It was one of our favorite parts of the drive.

Our next major stop was Black Rock Beach. This was crazy cool! The sand is literally black and super fine. It's not as soft as other sand, but surprisingly not as rocky or hard as you'd think.

The waves were crashing a ton here as well, so a few times we had to chase our shoes into the water before they got too far away, and this is Christina's hair after the first unexpected wave hit. It was fun to stand and be hit by the waves, but you had to hang on to make sure they didn't wipe you out completely. Super fun!
After wave crashing, we were all tired, but while James and Kelly relaxed we took the walk over to these huge rocks that had blow holes. We'd look at it one second and there would be no water, then the next water was spraying out and getting you wet! We were lucky to see it go off twice right away, but then it seemed to slow down. We wished we could have stayed longer, but we still had a good distance to drive and the 7-sacred pools to swim in.

This is under that arch that you see on the big picture above. Our camera totally got wet as the wave crashed higher than we anticipated, but luckily no damage was done. :)

With awhile longer in the car, we made it to the 7-sacred pools. James and Mike took off climbing over the rough terrain to get to the jumping point. A couple of people jumped off the bridge that you can barely see at the top of the picture below! Craziness!!

The drive to Hana was one of our favorite parts of the trip. It offered such a variety of views of the island. We loved the jungle like feeling and all the vegetation, but as we ended our drive we were in sort of a desert. It was all so beautiful and amazing.

We ended the night at a "Best of Maui" that K&J had tried before. It was pretty good Mexican food, but what the boys got did not settle well with them, so maybe we wouldn't vote it as "best of" :)
