Many of you probably heard about the fires in Herriman this last Sunday. We were close to the action, but not in any immediate danger. It was a fire that was started on the other side of the mountain by the military camp there, and we saw smoke around 3:30. The fire carried all the way over the top of the mountain and down towards some homes. There were about 4-6 homes that were burned and probably many more that had smoke damage. We were lucky enough to not have to be evacuated, and the smoke was bad but the wind changed where it wasn't overwhelming at our house. We were in Sandy most of the night with Mike's parents looking at Hawaii pictures from their recent trip, and we could see the mountain on fire from there. So once we got closer to home it made things more real about how lucky we were. The pictures aren't very good or emphasize how close it all seemed, but luckily the fire was under control by the morning and then we just had a burnt mountain side to look at.
This is a video of part of the fire that we could see really well looked like from our house.
