Catch up-glasses

Like most kids Carter LOVES to put on glasses. Whenever he puts on Mike's he thinks he is "daddy." Savi of course loves them too.

Catch up-my birthday

So now that I can blog from my phone I have some catch up to do. :) Just before my birthday, my sisters and mom came into town for the funeral of our cousin. Though it wasn't the happiest of reasons to get together, it was definitely nice to see everyone. Since they were here we had a girls day out by eating lots, shopping, and pedicures. It was the best birthday ever!

First present

Savi is going to be turning one this Saturday!  We can't believe how fast the time has gone by. She got her first present from the grandparents in South Carolina. $10 and a sparkly card...perfect. :) "She" will have to think of something really fun to get with the birthday money.

We had a great day trip with Mike's family in the ponderosa pines. It was a bit of a drive, but completely worth it! It was absolutely beautiful.

Hmm...dirt!

Last post for the night...I promise. :) We love going to the cabin but the worse part for me is trying to keep Savi out of the dirt that is surrounding us. After about 5 minutes I give up and give into the inevitable mud mouth and hands, but with a smile like that how could it make you do anything else but laugh! :)

They're related!

This picture was taken on our way home from our last cabin trip. It is so cute because they both fell asleep the same way with a book. (you can see savi in the mirror)

We have a walker!

Savi is totally walking now! About a month ago she took her first 3-5 steps before catching on to something or more commonly falling on her bum. :) Now, just within the last couple of days she will continue to stand back up after falling instead of just crawling! I tried multiple times to post a video from my phone but it hasn't worked so as of now you get a slightly blurry pic as evidence. I absolutely love having a little walking almost one year old girl!

Bubble bath

Now I call that a bubble bath! That is what happens in a jetted tub. Carter loved it!

TINY watermelon

Besides pumpkins, tomatoes, and squash, we also planted some watermelon. As you can see only two tiny ones survived. Luckily they actually tasted pretty sweet. Not sure if we will plant them again...maybe if we can get them in a lot earlier. Anyone have success with growing watermelon?

The last pickings

We had a great time with our little garden this summer. We made some killer salsa and lots of delicious things with zucchini and squash. This is the last of our crop and we luckily have one pumpkin for each of us for Halloween. Carter has loved checking in the garden practically daily. We definitely want to do more next year.

Spider strength

This costume is priceless! It is small and Carter says the mask just "hurts my ears a little bit" but he doesn't want to take it off. He also keeps asking me what he can do for me since spiderman helps. Lucky me. :)

Spider Man & Minney

So we got this great package from Grandma Habel that was filled with lots of Disney fun, and best of all was a Spiderman costume! Carter has been telling us for weeks now that he wants to be Spiderman for Halloween. I have tried to talk him into other things but he was set so I was just starting to think of how and where I was going to get a costume then the package came! It might be a little small but he is in love with it and has already started fighting the "naughty batmans" downstairs. :)

Love fall!

So that last blog post and this post is from my phone! Yeah, now I can keep things updated much easier. The only potential problem is that you can only upload one picture at a time, but I guess something is better than nothing, right? The colors of the trees were seriously so amazing.

Cabin time!

We were able to spend the night at the cabin for the first time with our two kids last weekend. The weather was absolutely beautiful especially with all the fall colors. The kids loved riding on the tote gote. In fact Savi would throw a temper tantrum when they would stop. The worse part was we found a big beehive at the apex of the cabin so they made it hard to enjoy the fire, but it was still a much needed fantastic weekend.

We took our first professional family pictures on Wednesday! We went to this great place in Draper called Fotofly. There is just one charge of $79 for all the rights to all the pictures they take in a 30-45 minute session, and you can do whatever type shots you want. So we got some family pictures, individual and together of the kids, and a few shots of Mike and I with one kid. We wanted to do it all but we didn't realize how much time it would take for each pose. Next time we'll just dedicate one session to just the kids and one to just family. Anyway, it was an exhausting and fun time and we wanted to show you some of the precious shots that were captured.

The kids were pretty good, but Savi didn't love all the new things, people or flash so she didn't give us her huge dimple grins, and Carter kept getting distracted by the toys, so I was amazed at what the photographer was able to capture through all the craziness.

We've got a scooter! Savi has quickly learned to maneuver her way to things she wants. Carter's toys aren't safe any more. ;-)

Christina's brother Dan from Lincoln stopped by a couple of weeks ago to pick up a truck for his business. It was a very quick trip with his flight coming in late at 12:30am and him leaving by 4 pm the next day, but we managed to get some family together at IHOP to take advantage of this rare occurrence of Dan in Utah. The last time he was here was almost 5 years ago when Aaron and Karen got married.
It was a crazy weekend overall since we had to finish painting and getting the basement ready for carpet on Monday morning. Christina's uncle helped with the wiring, and then worked on painting the ceiling, doors, and baseboards. We went to bed really late on Sunday, but we got it done and the everything looks great! I'll post before and after pictures soon.
This is Carter counting...he misses a couple of numbers, but he keeps amazing us how big he is getting.

Savi is 6 months now and she is in the 92 percentile for height and 50 percentile for weight. We are just waiting for her two bottom teeth to poke through all the way. Last night she said her first word..."ba ba" It's probably just babble, but it could totally mean bottle or Mike likes to think she is saying Daddy in Chinese. Either way, it is super cute to hear her little voice. :)

We finally captured a video of Savi rolling over! She pretty much can only go one way right now, but it is soo cute!

Sunday, April 03, 2011

So a few weeks back Carter was playing quietly in the bathroom and instead of stopping everything to check on him we checked up on him a little later and this is what we found...

He had found Mike's travel size gel and smeared it all over his head and on his pants and on the carpet...bright blue. I was so thrown off that my first reaction was to laugh and then grab the camera and Mike, then we talked discipline. Ahh...the things kids get into.
On Saturday we had one of those sad yet peaceful days. Mike's Grandma Jenson passed away on Wednesday and there was a beautiful service for her on Saturday. All her children shared precious memories of their mom and then all grandchildren sang I am a Child of God. The rain waited to fall until we left the grave site and even though we are very sad that her smiling face is gone from this life, we feel very peaceful. The knowledge of eternal families is definitely the reason that we can feel peace at this time where her sickness made her deteriorate quickly. We were able to see her in the hospital last Sunday and even though it was hard for her to talk we got her to laugh a bit and of course shared some loving words. She always brightened up when the great-grandkids came. She will be greatly missed, but we know that she has many loved ones, as well as a son that passed away at a young age, that she can be with now until we see her again.
You know the list of projects that you try to get through but never can? Well, I finally crossed off going through Savannah's closet. I've been wanting to do it for months, and I wish I would have because I found some brand new cute outfits that she never has worn and are now too small! Of course she has to wear them at least once. :) Our little Savi is over 5 months now, and she just started rolling over! Now we really have to keep an eye on her. Also, her two bottom teeth are about to poke through. We can feel the hard spots in her gums and she is a bit fussier than usual. She loves to chew on everything and already loves food. She grabs at things we have in our hands, and she's been on rice cereal for a bit. She is just growing up so quickly!

Friday, March 18, 2011

Savannah has given us huge, dimple cheek smiles for awhile now, but her laughs are few and far between. So this morning I was surprised when Carter got her to laugh continuously for a few minutes. I captured it on my phone so it might not be the best quality, but it is priceless to us!

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Well, I already fell behind my goal...oh well, something sometime is better than nothing. :) Things are going pretty well for our little family. Savi just keeps getting cuter and cuter each day. She is really a strong girl and loves to play with toys. She is getting close to rolling over since she did it by accident in her crib twice. She smiles super huge a lot, but still won't give us laughs very often. We just gave her rice cereal for the first time and she seemed to really like it, but the last couple of times I've given it to her she makes kind of a gagging face like she doesn't like it, but she keeps opening her mouth for more so who knows!

She also figured out how to blog bubble noises...so adorable! (video didn't work, maybe it is too big so I'll have to try later)

Carter is still testing the waters when it comes to Savannah to see how much he can get away with, but what brother doesn't? He can really be super sweet to her and he tells her how much he misses her and loves her. He will share his toys with her occasionally, but he actually doesn't like her to play with her toys. He always is trying to take them away. We can't believe how much of a little boy he is turning into. He loves to help Mike with whatever he is doing and has spent many hours downstairs playing with real tools. There was one time that there was a wire from a flourescent light we had taken down and unplugged and Carter snipped the end of the cord off and brought it to Mike. Then he said "I being careful and holding handles." Yikes! :) He really is pretty responsible and is definitely learning how to handle tools at a young age, but we have to keep our eye on him!
Besides keeping busy with kids we are just waiting for our basement to be done. They are downstairs doing texture on the walls and ceiling now so we should be ready to paint everything next week, and then install carpet! It is so exciting. I'll post pictures soon.
